  • Enlisted in Sept 1861 in the 35th Tennessee Infantry Regiment; Col. B. J. Hill; Capt. Jim Wood later Captain Marion Gunter; Elected 2nd Lieutenant in 1862
  • Battles: Shiloh, Murfreesboro, Perryville, Chickamauga, Richmond KY
  • Wounded in the right shoulder in the Battle of Shiloh; slightly wounded in hand at Perryville. The shoulder was a flesh wound. The tip for forefinger on the left hand was shot off. Contracted fever at the time he was wounded at Shiloh.
  • He was captured twice but escaped.
  • Married twice. Both are dead.
  • He has one adopted daughter who is 18.

    MRS. A. B. SUMMAR - Mrs. A. B. Summar of this city died in Nashville early Thursday morning, May 4, 1916, and was buried in Mt. Olivet cemetery. She had gone to Nashville for treatment some time ago. Her home had been in Cookeville for about three years. She is survied by her husband and one daughter by a former marriage, Miss Gladys LaRoche, three brothers T. M. Smoot of Nashville, J. W. Smoot of Tullahoma and W. M. Smoot of Cookeville; and two sissters, Mrs. T. J. Henegar of McMinnville, and Mrs. H. H. McNiece of Cookeville.
