  • JB enlisted in Sep 1864 in Overton County in Company H 8th Tenn Regt and served 9 months until the close of the war.
  • JB surrendered in Washington, GA on 9 May 1865
  • JB died in Monterey 7 March 1891
  • Nine children: six sons and three daughters. Two sons are dead. Sam - 56 yrs, Sarah - 54 yrs, Letitia - 52 yrs, Andrew - 44yrs; Willis - 41 yrs; Joseph - 39 yrs; Mary - 36 yrs.

NOTES

  • In the 1910 Putnam County, TN Census (Page 171A), Eliza Blaylock is living in the home of her daughter and son-in-law (Mary and Henry Layne). Her son, Joe A. Blaylock is living next door. Eliza Blaylock indicates that she is a widow.
  • In 1905, the State of Tennessee granted pensions to Widow's of Confederate Veterans living in Tennessee. On the 28 August 1905, Eliza Blaylock applied for a Confederate Widow's Pension.
  • In this pension, Eliza Blaylock stated that John Blaylock died 7 March 1891. This date is an error, because John Blaylock applied for a Confederate Pension 20 September 1901, and he is enumerated in the 1900 Putnam County, TN Census.
  • J. H. Ray and J. J. Whittaker were witnesses for Eliza Blaylock, in order for her to obtain her pension. Their affidavit is dated 7 September 1905. They state that John Blaylock died 4 years earlier. John *probably* died 7 March 1902.
  • John Blaylock was rejected for his Confederate Pension Application. Typically, when a veteran was rejected, he attempted to prove that he was eligible by submitting supporting documents. Since John submitted no further documentation, he was probably died before being able to do so.
